Automatic Translation

In this illustration, the upper image shows the Portable SQL you created in Alpha Five. In the left column, you'll notice that DB2 has been selected as the database engine. And in the Native SQL syntax box, you see the correct SQL statement for db2.

In the lower image, MySQL has been selected as the database engine. Alpha Five automatically translates the SQL statement into syntax that is correct for MySQL.

By using Portable SQL you can easily switch database backends without having to rewrite all of your queries - making your application quite portable. You can also learn just one set of SQL commands, and let Alpha Five handle the differences from engine to engine.
