Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Ink-Databound control on a report

Is it possible to use an formview Ink-Databound control with it's data stored in a sql server varchar(MAX) field and use it on a report to be displayed as HTML-Paged? I'm not seeing data in the report.

    Thanks

Re: Ink-Databound control on a report

You need to "convert" the table "Ink" data in the Report Source. Right-click your report and choose DataSource, Edit DataSource definition. Then click Ok and Next.

You should now see an option named "Advanced Options"... click this and turn on Override field definitions of selected fields and then click the button that appears... "Field Definitions".

Find your Ink field and double-click it. Change it's Data type to Ink Image.

That should be it... but... you'll have to report back about what you see.

I created a new report that should display a single signature field. As you can see from the attached images for some reason converting to an Ink Image is not working for me.

My Ink Image data is being converted. What Alpha version/build are you working with? If you could post your Test report and a sample table I'd have a look.

            Hi David,

I'm using Build 4246 4859. I've attached the report and a txt file to create the table. I'm not sure if this is exactly what's need so please let me know.

I see that you're using a Table Layout Report. I wouldn't... they're way too hard to work with... designed more for working with Excel. Try the attached Free-Form report.

You can confirm what I'm seeing. Under Print Preview the signature is cut-off most of the time. And, when run as an HTML-Paged report the Ink actually changes... with a straight line drawn from the beginning of the ink... to the end... or something like that.

Sorry... I forgot to say I changed the Alpha DAO Connection string... to mine. Did you change it back to yours?

I see... now that I've watched your screencast.

I wonder if it's a control size thing. Here's my screencast...

                    I've done this in 4119, 4254, and 4292

Yes I did change it back to the sql server database. I'm going to test it with an access db just to see if it works.

Is there a way to Size the ink Signature? I can't seem to size it within a report.

Lee, try manually setting the size of the control to what you want on the report, then right-click on the control and select size to fit. This seemed to work for me.

In the list control, we can size the ink signature. I don't know how in the report. Nothing I've tried seems to work. If anyone has any ideas of what I'm doing wrong...
