Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    AlphaToGo SaaS Framework

I was so excited when a group of companies saw one of my applications and said "WE NEED THAT!" Wow, what a high, until I realized the amount of work it will take to build up all the user management that will go with it. When I purchased Alpha one of the BIG selling points was the SaaS framework - well at least the advertising for it... I have since learned that it's not that great. I have found several references to the AlphaToGo framework.

    So who's using this framework?
    Does it work?
Is it still being supported? It seems to me most of the references on the site are quite old
Will it work with the latest builds of Alpha?

    Any help would be appreciated.

      Thanks Pete!

The AlphaToGo Framework has sold 240 copies since first issued. I do not keep track of who is actively using it but I run in to it all the time in my consulting. I can guarantee you will have 95% of the user features you need 20 minutes after you download the app. I wrote it to satisfy my own need to build web apps with consistency. It it does not yet have a mobile or IIS interface, working on that. I will get you some recent customer references.

I suppose you should give me a list of what user features you are looking for so I can confirm they are in the Framework. Not correct to call the AlphaToGo Framework a "SaaS Framework", it is a "Web App Framework" and the feature set would be different between those two descriptions.

Yes Darren mentions it in the first post.

This store has links to both Steve Woods excellent framework and the SaaS framework which I am sure is excellent too:

                      Re: AlphaToGo SaaS Framework

You can easily create a saas application (I know there are many variations) by simply using a company_id as a filter for every component as needed. All users with that company_id see their respective records and then further refine by user groups. When I first started it seemed like it was impossible, and I have found with AS it is easy. Just remember ONE thing, if you are starting out with the alpha web server and standard security setup DO NOT change anything in the web_security tables like add in your own fields - when you sign someone up via the web security methods, use some xbasic to write all other important info into another table. This is important if you decide to use IIS later on the additional fields do not carry over and if you did like me and add fields to the security table to filter everything - your going to have to rewrite it. Learning Curveball...
The other MAJOR mistake I made was not really knowing about normalization and proper table setup, naming conventions, etc. This leads to a potential poor (slow) index and slower speeds. I still do not know how to really setup triggers and the use of transactions, heck barely could figure out what a view was or why it would ever be necessary! One thing though, is I have found that indexing with the company_id was a major speed boost, there are tools and commands you can run to measure it. to see for yourself later on, but it's a good start at optimization from the beginning.
