Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I have read that there is some conflict with v10 existing with v9. Is this true, is there an issue with this? If so, please explain.

Is this what you were referring to?

      http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...ad.php?t=81595

Downloaded trial last night and it just installed by itself. Have both V9 and V10 running side by side with no problems so far. Only question I would have is download says beta 10 not trial version, thus would there be an additonal 30 day trial once the actual release comes out in a couple of weeks as announced previously?

I have a full release Version 10 installed along with V7 - V8 and V9. No problems whatsoever and had it since the full release came out to the Beta Testers.

          Richard,
Yes, i believe that was the thread, thank you.

          Tom,
I'm going for it! Thanks for the nudge.

          Later:
Well I went for it and it took a whole 30 seconds to identify an issue. I use buttons in embedded browses. One use is to change the value of a field (c_mark) to "x" to mark the record for selection. In v8 & v9 just pressing the button does both place focus on the record and execute the button event. In v10, the achieving focus does not happen and you have to select the record first and then press the button. I submitted it as a bug.

            Mike

I tried it in both v9 and v10. In v9 it works. In v10 it got it to work in two ways first way to get it to work is to put a parentform.commit() after this.set_viewport_row(row) - the second way is way out but I was trying this with the debug and it worked - I added a message box after the this.set_viewport_row(row) just to see if the row was right and the focus was shifted to that row and the x+/- worked.

One question, the form is staying in change mode - ie when you click the plus/minus button and the "x" appears and then you go to the next record the "x" is not saved to the table (is that the way you want it to work) that is why is just tried parentform.commit() and it worked.

            That is just an observation.

Just to confirm, I did get the same results as you did before I added the quasi-workaround code.

So a bug report was in order as far as I am concerned. Let's see what Selwyn has to say.

Edit: It might be a timing issue - changing from one row to the next by using the buttons on which the code may fire before the row is changed.

When trying to open the file, I grt this message:

              A5v10_full_DL.exe is not a valid win32 application

              I have a 64 bit machine.

              Thanks,

Did another download and all is well. Favre??? Well, at 40, he is the best QB the Vikings have had in a long, long, long time. He also brings a new sense of energy and expectation. It's hard to get used to him with horns but his performance against GB was nothing less than amazing. :D

Just a quick note to the nice folks at Alpha.
                    Well, first, thanks.
But also, on the dropdown list of countries, when you try to download the trial, UK is missing. I tried Britain, England - no joy, we have fallen off the Alpha world! :-o

                      Marius,

Try 'Great Britain and Northern Ireland'. Not sure why they deviated from the easier 'UK' but at least we haven't fallen of the map.

Think it uses the country lookup function which uses standard country names and codes.
