Default Web project reports vs control panel

I am confused on the two different report types/locations. What is the difference between the control panel reports and the web project reports?

    There are two major differences:

    • The control panel reports can use DBF and SQL, the web projects reports can only use SQL.
    • The control panel reports are stored in the project's "ADB" file meaning you have to publish that (often large) file each time you edit any report. The web projects reports are stored as individual files just like other components, so you can publish modified reports individually. This is more convenient overall.

Thank you Steve. I only use SQL and I hate having to publish the ADB each time a report is created or edited. So is there any drawback to using the web projects reports? Also, can the reports I already have be saved as a web projects report?

From the web control panel, lower left you can click to Import Reports from the regular control panel. Drawbacks, can't think of any other than the aforementioned DBF restriction.

When I move my reports to the project and redirect my print button to the correct report, it just spins and spins. Cannot make the report run once it has been moved.

Reed, one of my reports did that, but it was due to a subreports permission in the report. After I set the permissions and published it worked fine.

    Hey Travis,

Thanks for that. I forgot I have embeded reports within this report.

Another drawback to using the control panel reports I have found just recently - you cannot display it as a PDF in a panelcard however you can download it as one. If you import the same control panel report INTO the project, you can then display the report in a panelcard.

Disconnected apps are easy to understand. An internet-enabled app is like a long cat, you pull the tail on one device in New York and the cat meows in New Orleans. In the case of a disconnected app, there just isn't a cat and the meow is familiar.
