Default Form with Active SQL Tables Very Slow Query

I have a desktop form that uses a set with 3 SQL Active Link tables (Patient, Case, Visit). If I load without a query its very fast. If I want to filter the tables ie I want to see records that have either Case on Hold or the Visit is on Hold, the query takes forever to run literally 10-15 minutes. I need direction. Is there a better way than to run a query to load the records I want to see and change? The form has 3 browses on it.

    Thanks in advance.

Queries using Alpha and SQL are slow.
Any reason not to use DBF?
How are you building the queries?
Have you tried indexing on the fields you want?
You might be better off downloading the data and running local queries.
