Default Function requested is not supported

I have a new very basic grid I have created connected to a SQL Server. Whenever I try to insert a new record I get an error message "Record was not inserted, Function requested is not supported." I am new to SQL Server and I think I have persmissions correct because I can log in with SQL Server Management Studio with the same userid and password I built my connection string with and I can do everything I need. I can update information with my grid, just cannot insert.

Found my answer. I had fields in SQL Server set up as type date and not datetime. As soon as changed the datatypes in SQL Server everything worked fine.

Sorry to pick up on old thread but I'm getting a related problem which I don't understand and I'd be very grateful for any insights. I'm using Xbasic to manipulate named ODBC data sources. One is MS SQL EXPRESS 2014 which has what it says are datetime fields in it. I have a calendar control which I use to get a date to filter it as per args1.Set("what_date", e.datasubmitted.calendar2) to use in a WHERE clause. This latter returns a string; I know its a string as I get an error if I try to use CMONTH on it; however I can easily turn it into a date using ctod(). So far so good BUT

If I use the raw data the filter works however when I use the ctod() version I get the above error. Why? Its definitely a datetime field....
