Camera access on a mobile device made simple in the upcoming Alpha Five v12

For many mobile application development platforms, accessing a mobile device's camera is complicated and time consuming. With our next major release, it's easy.

A common requirement in many mobile applications, is the ability to access the camera or photo library so that a picture can be taken and then uploaded to the server, where it will be stored in a binary field in a table, or in a folder on the server.

The upcoming version of our mobile application development platform enables you to quickly add image upload functionality to mobile applications running on any platform or browser—reducing this typically complicated task to to just a few of minutes of development time. It is done using the built-in 'Image Upload' action in Action Javascript.

There are two methods for accessing the camera in the upcoming Alpha Five.

You can use HTML5 (if the browser on the native device supports HTML5 camera access) or you can use Cordova/PhoneGap (if your application is running in a native shell that uses Cordova).

Watch the video above to learn more about image upload in the next version of our mobile and desktop web application development platform.
