- Editing a Layout Table Report
/documentation/pages/Guides/Report/Layout Table Reports/Editing a Layout Table Report.xml
Editing a Layout Table Report is somewhat different from editing a Free Form Report, although many operations, such as adding a field to the report, are the same for the two types of report. For general information about Free Form reports, see Report Topics.
When editing a Layout Table Report, however, you must think in terms of rows and columns and regions, as though you were working in a spreadsheet or HTML table — which, in fact, may be your ultimate targets for the report.
- Inserting Records into a Back-End Database
/documentation/pages/Server/Reference/Design/Data/SQL/Inserting Records into a Back-End Database.xml
To insert records into a back-end database, you use the SQL INSERT command. The general syntax of the INSERT command is:
- Placing a Running Count on a Report
/documentation/pages/Guides/Report/Adding System and Calculated Fields/Placing a Running Count on a Report.xml
This procedure explains how to place a running count of items on a report that produces something like the following. Note the sequence of numbers at the left of each Product ID.
- How to Split a Series into Multiple Series
/documentation/pages/HowTo/Charts/Split a Series into Multiple Series.xml
A Data Series can be split into multiple logical series using a sub-series. This technique is useful in situations where the data you would like to plot can easily be split into multiple series - such as sales information over multiple years by company.
- Converting a Quick Report to a Layout Table Report
/documentation/pages/Guides/Report/Quick Reports/Converting a Quick Report to a Layout Table Report.xml
Once you have gone as far as possible with a Quick Report, you'll want to convert it to a Free Form or Layout Table Report. The Open in Report Editor button on the main toolbar does this when the Quick Report Genie is open.
If you want to preserve the Quick Report for future use in the Genie, first press the Save As button on the main toolbar and either accept the generated name or choose a new name.
- Using Xdialog to Filter a Report
/documentation/pages/Guides/Desktop/Xdialog/Using Xdialog to Filter a Report.xml
The following example shows the use of a multi-select list box with embedded check boxes with the AlphaSports sample database. It allows the operator to select multiple values from the BILL_CITY field, then uses this information to filter the fields that will appear on a report. The Xdialog form looks like this.
- Suppressing Blank Space on a Report
/documentation/pages/Guides/Report/Printing Techniques/Suppressing Blank Spaceon a Report.xml
Alpha Anywhere lets you automatically suppress blank space at the end of each report section.
Normally, if you define a report section of a certain height, the report will print using that size.
- Copying a Report to Another Database
/documentation/pages/Guides/Report/Managing Reports/Copying a Report to Another Database.xml
If you would like to copy a report to another database, it is important to understand that a report is not attached to a database. It is attached to a table. The source and destination databases must have tables with the same field names and definitions.
- When to turn a Custom Component into a User-defined Component
/documentation/pages/Guides/Mobile and Web Components/Custom/When to turn a Custom Component into a User-defined Component.xml
In addition to the bindable arguments of a Custom Component, a User-defined Component has properties and supports having property grids for user input. Bindable properties make it possible to bind data to exposed properties programmatically, which in turn makes it possible to send the User-defined Component arrays of data or data generated from Xbasic expressions. Property grids, used widely in Alpha Anywhere and prominent as the control panel for grid creation, make setting up the User-defined Component a matter of a few mouse clicks.
- Previewing a Report, Label, or Letter
/documentation/pages/Guides/Report/Design Techniques/Previewing a Report, Label, or Letter.xml
To preview a report, label, or letter.
