- Prompt for a Date
/documentation/pages/Guides/Desktop/Design/Prompt/Prompt for a Date.xml
The Prompt for a Date action will prompt the user for a date and store it in a character variable. Use the CTOD() function to convert the result into a date value.
- Creating a Previous Values Lookup
/documentation/pages/Guides/Desktop/Design/Data/DBF/Creating a Previous Values Lookup.xml
The Previous Values lookup is a great way to dynamically build a choice list from values that have already been entered.
In a table containing product information, you might define a Product type field with a Previous Values lookup. Since the number of product types is limited, once you enter several product records, you can select the value from the list instead of typing it in.
Many parameters available with the other lookup styles are available for use with a Previous Values lookup, including the ability to display lookup choices in a drop-down list box.
If you selected "Conditional Table Lookup", optionally, un-check Display as Drop-down list box if you would like the choices to appear instead in a pop-up dialog box. Refer to Comparing Drop-down Lists and Popup Dialogs.
- Defaulting a Date Field to Today's Date
/documentation/pages/Guides/Desktop/Design/Data/FieldRules/Defaulting a Date Field to Today's Date.xml
Frequently, you will want to assign today's date as a default value to a field. There are two ways to do this using field rules.
- Displaying Calculated Values on a FormView
/documentation/pages/Guides/Mobile and Web Components/UX/Controls/Other Controls/FormView/Displaying Calculated Values on a FormView.xml
When you design a FormView control you may want the form to display calculated values (typically computed from other fields in the form).
Since the Form is really just an HTML template that is rendered using Alpha Anywhere's client-side templating features, this is easily done.
- Adapting to a Different Server Date Format
/documentation/pages/Server/Guide/Design/View/Grid/Adapting to a Different Server Date Format.xml
The application developer created a grid with a search component with a date field. The Application Server was located on a machine where the regional settings were set for US dates (i.e. MM/DD/YYYY ). The users, however, wanted to search using DD/MM/YYYY date formats. The solution was to edit the .A5W page that displays the component.
- Displaying Values from a Set in a Tree Control
/documentation/pages/Guides/Desktop/Xdialog/Controls/Tree Control/Displaying Values from a Set in a Tree Control.xml
This sample demonstrates several different programming techniques.
- Entering and Changing Records
/documentation/pages/Guides/Desktop/Design/Data/DBF/Entering and Changing Records.xml
You can enter or change records in any open table (assuming the table is not write-protected or being used exclusively by another user or session). Several open tables or related tables from a set can be in Enter or Change mode simultaneously.
To enter a new record into a table, you do the following:
- Put a Button on a Form that Sets Form Field Values
/documentation/pages/Desktop/Tutorial/Design/View/Xdialog/Controls/Put a Button on a Form that Sets Form Field Values.xml
The goal in this lesson is to put a button on a form that sets the "Active" field to False, and sets the date on which the customer was deactivated.
- Set Variable(s) to Field Values (Fields on a Form)
/documentation/pages/Guides/Desktop/Design/Platform/Xbasic Action Scripting/Field/Set Variables to Field Values, Fields on a Form.xml
The Set Variable(s) to Field Values (Fields on a Form) action reads field values on a form or browse.
- Using Tables and Sets That are Not Part of a Workspace
/documentation/pages/Guides/Desktop/Design/View/Database/Using Tables and Sets That are Not Part of a Database.xml
There is actually no need to have all of the tables and sets in an application be members of the workspace. Iin fact, you could build an application where none of the tables and sets are in the workspace. If you do this, the change that you would have to make in your Xbasic would be to full qualify references to forms, reports, tables, etc.
