The purpose of Custom Character Filters is to allow the user complete control over how specified characters are treated when they are exported. Custom filters only apply to character fields where quotes, field separators and record separators may exist in the data itself. The default behaviour, if no filters are defined, is to strip off field and record separators only. Quotes are left alone, as it is assumed the program that consumes the data you are exporting to ignores quotes (unless the 'Quote Character Fields' option is used). For our first example, we will edit the customer table in AlphaSports to include various quote characters, and a comma inside the data (see the 'Company' field).

Geocode an address. Returns .lat and .lon. Also returns .error_code and .error_text. Address must be entered with commas between each part. e.g. 123 Main St., Boston, MA, 02116, USA. Method can be 'Nominatim' or 'Google'. Default is 'Google'

Alpha Anywhere supports calling into .NET Framework assemblies from Xbasic. This opens up a wealth of additional capabilities for Xbasic programs for very little effort.

The .NET Framework support is encapsulated by an object-oriented Xbasic wrapper in the form of a namespace. In practice, this means that once someone has written the few lines of Xbasic code it takes to import a .NET class, calling that class's methods will be no more complicated than calling any other Xbasic function.

Find by Key

The Find by Key dialog is available in both forms and browses, and lets you find the first record whose key value most closely matches a key value you specify. The Find by Key dialog does not require that you have at least one predefined index. If there are no indexes, it will allow you to search by record number or within a specified field.
