Check for blank or space in rtf memo

How does one check to see if a rich test memo field has only spaces in it? (Or is blank, though I am really looking for one space that I previously put there.)

I have tried checking its "value" to be equal to " " (space)or "" in its OnArrive event on a form but that returns true even when the field has all kinds of words in it. Am I missing something or is this a bug?

No, it is not a bug.
You probably have not read the Xbasic reference manual for info on the
rtf_to_text() function, or the rtf_field_to_text() function?

Assume that the "customer" table as a rtfmemo field called "rtfmemo". Record
1 has an RTF memo with a single space, record 2 has a null memo, and record 3's
memo says "alpha"
Here is an Interactive window session:

I am not a big believer in the sys_send() command to do actions for which
Xbasic provides method.

For example, using the "edit_customer_info" form in AlphaSports (to which I
added a RTF memo field called RTFMEMO)

This code deletes the entry in the RTF Memo field. It was executed from the
Interactive window. So if you want to execute it from a button on the form you
would replace "edit_customer_info" with "topparent"

In regard to deleting the content of an rtf memo field, I am not sure the xbasic method would succeed in doing what sys_send_key("{DELETE}") does in this context. I may try it but so far have not.

The background context is this: What I was trying to do is improve upon the code in your message ID 6748 which is supposed to change an rtf's defaults (such as the font's point size). The trouble is that the code you presented there still requires (at least it did for me) that the user knows what to do to get the larger point size the code sets (such as hit the right arrow key and then the left arrow key or hit the delete key and delete all the spaces). So I determined that if your code only put in one space, all the user would have to do is hit the delete key once and magically the point size would be set at the larger size (otherwise not). Given that, my thought was, why not have an OnArrive event check for the one space and if found do a sys_send_key("{DELETE}"). Bingo, once you told me how to check for the space it works perfectly. If I get time I'll play with an xbasic alternative for the OnArrive event because I also do not generally like using sys_send_key().
