Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Need your help to find best - looking Alpha Application or web site

    Hi

My customer thinks that Alpha looks "dated" and "not sexy"

I don't agree - I think that Alpha's looks are cool but it's a perception which I need to address.

Do you have any systems that they or we can log into, or even screenshots that show clear detail?

    Many thanks and regards

    Graeme,

    Check out http://alphadzine.com

Although this is not an "Alpha" website, they do sell Alpha desktop templates which can make your apps look as polished and modern as any application.

      Graeme,

      Here are some examples: https://www.alphatogo.com/downloads/...b_examples.pdf

The first one in the document is my most recent, and starting to "get there" in terms of a modern design.

I would agree that most Alpha websites (including mine) are not as sexy as others; but it's not because Alpha is incapable. It's (IMO) because most of us came from the database world, not from the web design world. Someone with the right skill can create layouts to rival the best CSS and dynamic website designs out there. But I would argue, this career path makes us better at building data-driven dynamic web applicaitons than other designers perhaps more focused on sexy.

Well I think page 3 hits the mark! And the UK followers on here will get the secondary meaning to that phrase!

Actually Graham are you referring specifically to web design?

I wish I knew what you mean by sexy?
Is this sexy enough for you?
I have a lot more, but I am sorry, I can't show the XXX version!

              P.S.
The quality of the video degrrades while recording. It looks much better and smoother in real life.

One thing you have to keep in mind is that you can use style sheets and graphics etc. to make a website look hot, no matter whether is an Alpha or PHP site. OK so some of the built-in CSS styles are a tad naff but others are pretty slick, and you can always write your own! Being able to dynamically generate gradient images on the web app server also opens the potential for much more sexy-looking web apps too... (The Theme.css files in the A5V9 program folder > CSS folders use dynamically created gradient backdrops... )

As for the desktop side of things, with rounded buttons, frames and using gradient backdrops, you can do some pretty amazing stuff too!

So? Your client needs a solution to his business needs or is just looking for something Not "dated" and "sexy"...?

His product should be sexy and not outdated.. Not the tool to display it or sell it..

                          Drop this client...

                          regards, Ron

                            Ron,

With all due respect, I totally disagree.

All clients want the same thing. Sexy, Appealing, Working websites and app faces. Things have changed in the web design departments in just 5 years.

I cannot blame a company for wanting it, because I want it when I pay for a website for the dealership. I don't really care how they do it, just do it. Most of the websites we use are canned, then altered some to suit taste.
