Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Alpha Five Printer not installed

    But, of course, it is...

I thought I had overcome this error, but it has come up again.

I'm currently watching over nine different Alpha installations and on eight of them I resolved this error some time ago by uninstalling A5 WAS, then uninstalling the A5 Developer, then removing the printer through control panel, rebooting, then reinstaling everything again. However, today on one site, just as I was starting to get some steam up on finishing up my application, this error came up again. (Must be demons!)

So, does anyone have an alternative process that works to resolve this error?

Meantime, I'll be killing a few chickens, painting my face and dancing around a bonfire...

Storegrid is a backup system that is used by Zebrahost and if its running it can lock up certain folders that are included in backup jobs.

              Pete,

Thanks, yes, I am using AlwaysUp. I'll try without it.

              Chad,

This is not a Zebrahost machine, so it doesn't have StorGrid. Still, there may be something else having the same affect. I'll contact the hosting company.

Re: Alpha Five Printer not installed

I have the same problem when running WAS as a service, even with administrator permissions. I don't know why I can't get it to work for me. It seems that many people run WAS as a service and have no problems.

Thanks to all of you for helping.

Now I remember...you have to set the login for AlwaysUp...don't accept the default. I used the username and password I use for remote access which has administrator privileges.

Once I did that, all is well.

Yes - that is the answer - right click the File application server in alwaysup, click logon, enter your login details save - restart and all good.

Re: Alpha Five Printer not installed

At ZebraHost we always set AlwaysUp to run the Alpha WAS logged in as the admin user. Also we set the print spooler service to start automatically. pdf problems can be resolved by restarting the spooler.

This is the first that I have heard of StoreGrid causing any issues. I will check what Chad has said out and respond.

I'm running the WAS on a virtual server.

When it says to reinstall the server, do I just need to install the newest patch or do I need to remove and re-install the server? If so, will that install the "Alpha Five Printer"? I'm a bit confused. I installed a brother printer driver so I could preview the report, so I don't know where I would find an "Alpha Five Printer"

You must re-install the "complete" package not from a patch.

Thanks Walt. I purchased a download version, any idea where I would go to download it again? I just downloaded a 43mb patch, that probably isn't good enough? What I'm a bit confused is why would re-installing the WAS install the printer when it didn't do it the first time. Is the error message incorrect?
