Default padding around static text defined control for list control recordcount

Sometimes I feel so ignorant about html... I don't even know what 'span' means... When I use the Alpha defined control for record count on a list control, the following is the static text supplied by Alpha. I'm trying to figure out how to get that 'span' to not have so much padding above it because space is a premium for me.... as you can see by the attached screenshot. I'm sure there's something simple to do, but I've tried changing the style of the static text to 0 padding for all, etc., etc., and cannot get rid of the space above it. Any ideas?

    Code:
    Records: <span id="{dialog.componentname}.list1.RECORDCOUNT"></span>

span is used only to locate a part of the html document so you can add css or javascript to it. I don't think it adds that space. it could the element before it adding the space.
if any of the elements just before it has one of the h or p elements they add the trailing space. it may cause that problem have a look in one of the developer tools in the browser.

Carol, does your static text control have a control label position set to above?
If yes, try setting that to none, should resolve the space issue.

Nate, sometimes it's the simplest things we overlook. I set the label position to None, because it was set to above. And success!.. THANK YOU.
