Default Page Numbering for Groups in Reports

Does anyone have a sure fire method for getting page X and Y for groups?

Meaning, each group starts with 1 (ie: 1 of 3, 2 of 3, 3 of 3), then the next group starts at 1 again.

I've found that a custom routine is needed to add fields(x,y) to the primary table (or other appropriate table) and make 2 passes to set the values.

    I don't see a built in way.

You are suggesting something where I figure out ahead of time how many rows, for instance, will print on a page, then run a procedure to add the page numbers myself based on the size of each group's dataset?

Or you have to run each group as a separate report to individual PDFs. Then merge the PDFs into one file if you really need one file.

It's not asked for often and is complicated so that's probably why it is not a standard option.

I'd love to have an easy solution.
