While "Fuzzy business objectives, out-of-sync stakeholders, and excessive rework mean that 75% of project participants lack confidence that their projects will succeed" and "A truly stunning 78% of respondents reported that the business is usually or always out of sync with project requirements." Those are two of the conclusions from a 2011 survey of 600 people involved with application development conducted by Geneca, a software development company. And since 2011, little has changed.
In common with many similar surveys the Geneca study underlined the problems that challenge every organization developing software: Poor communication and unfounded expectations.
If only stakeholders could explain what they need and developers could communicate their understanding of those needs...if only there were some way, some techniques and tools that could bridge the yawning chasm of misunderstanding that so often derails software projects and results in applications that are late, over budget, and underperforming...
