When some people, including even developers, think of low-code/no-code platforms, they imagine the tools may be only suitable for simple, straight-ahead projects, such as creating forms and workflows. They may not think the platforms can handle enterprise-level work.
But Lee Vasic, CTO of Agency Data LLC, begs to differ. Vasic has been writing powerful, complex full-blown applications, including enterprise-strength security, using low-code/no-code tools from Alpha Software for many years. And he wouldn’t choose any other platform for doing it.
“I’ve been writing applications and web applications since the early 1980s, and I’ve found Alpha ideal for all my work, no matter the level of complexity,” he says. “Whether it’s something straightforward like a program to manage pool maintenance, or as difficult and complex as a Medicare-compliant system for home health care and hospice care it has everything I need.”
Vasic points to the Medicare-compliant home health care system he wrote as a perfect example of the power of Alpha Software. For a start, it had to have the highest level of security, because it must comply with the government’s HIPAA privacy regulations.
Beyond that, the application is an extremely complex one – so complex Vasic has been constantly updating it for years as his clients need more power and components, and as technology continually evolves.
“Alpha Software has been with me through it all,” he says. “As my clients’ needs have evolved, Alpha adds new capabilities and components to its software.”
The application can run an entire nursing operation devoted to home health care and hospice care, and it meets all of Medicare’s complex regulations and standards. It includes a mobile component so that nurses can chart information directly at patients’ bedsides. Its desktop component is powerful enough to run an entire office, he says.
“It was written as an SaaS application from the ground up, so multitenancy is built into it,” he explains. “The entire database is encrypted so that it’s HIPAA-compliant.”
It’s a cloud-based application that looks and performs like a client-server application.
“There are a lot of moving parts in it,” he explains. “People are surprised when I tell them that one person, me, wrote them all.”
He lauds the power of Alpha’s low-code tools. When writing applications using Alpha, he says, ninety percent of the time he uses Alpha’s components, and the other ten percent of the time he uses custom code, which easily integrates into Alpha.
“Alpha’s components are pre-tested and ready to deploy, so it’s extremely easy to put together complex applications quickly,” he explains. “It’s been a tremendous time-saver for me. And with it, I know I can tackle any job, no matter how complex. I’d recommend it to anybody for any kind of development work.”
