Top Stats on Digital Transformation

Here are a handful of quick statistics on the state of enterprise digital transformation. The data is from the Forbes article “40 Stats On Digital Transformation And Customer Experience.”

Quick statistics and data on the state of enterprise digital transformationLet’s start off with one of the most important digital transformation stats. According to a report by IDC, the article notes, “Eighty-five percent of enterprise decision-makers say they have a time frame of two years to make significant inroads into digital transformation or they will fall behind their competitors and suffer financially.” So if your company doesn’t make inroads fast, it could be in trouble.

Most companies, though, have yet to undergo a digital transformation. Smart Insights says only 34 percent of companies already have a digital transformation program in place. However, another 31 percent say they will “imminently” launch one.

As for companies that have already embarked on digital transformation, 56 percent of their CEOs say digital improvements have led to revenue growth, according to a Gartner survey. But the same survey found that almost half of CEOs don’t have a metric to measure the success or failure of their digital transformation.

As to how important mobile is in digital transformation, consider this statistic: One-third of all purchases in the 2018 holiday season was made on smartphones, reports TechCrunch, a whopping $2.1 billion out of a total of $62.billion in sales.

And retailers who have undergone digital transformation may think they’re doing a good job of using mobile, but their customers don’t think so. A report by Qualtrics found that 60 percent of companies believe they’re providing a good mobile experience for their customers, but only 22 percent of customers rate the mobile experience as a good one.

And finally, artificial intelligence is generally recognized as being a key way to help spur an enterprise’s digital transformation efforts, but most companies have yet to use the technology. A survey by Accenture found that “31% of companies have invested in AI in an effort to get ahead of the competition.” Expect that number to rocket, though, as companies begin to realize how central AI is to their future.

The Importance of Mobile to Digital Transformation

Enterprises looking to succeed at digital transformation cannot downplay the importance of mobile technology and mobile apps to their effort. Putting better mobile apps in the hands of frontline workers results in amazing success results.  One Forbes Insight study found that “43% of executives in organizations with high levels of digitally empowered firstline workers report excellent progress in their digital transformation efforts, versus 21% of executives with few digitally empowered workers.”
