2017 Gartner Market Guide for Rapid Mobile App Development Tools

Gartner released the 2017 Gartner Market Guide for Rapid Mobile App Development Tools by Research Director Jason Wong. The 2017 Gartner Market Guide for Rapid Mobile App Development Tools is focused on new technology that will help IT meet the demands of the digital workplace for modern mobile apps, then offers key criteria that application leaders can use to select the best rapid mobile app development tool for their organization.

First, Gartner defines rapid mobile app development (RMAD) technology and its importance in the IT ecosystem:

“Rapid mobile app development (RMAD) tools are a class of high-productivity development tool that target and enable nonprogrammers (and, in some cases, developers without any mobile experience) to build mobile apps using little to no code to support, at a minimum, iOS and Android mobile devices.

Gartner then explains RMAD will be a key driver of the democratization of app development. RMAD tools will allow IT to provide a platform to their wider organization that allows citizen developers to build mobile apps – all while IT maintains control over the data and security. Gartner predicts:

By 2022, citizen developers will be building more than one-third of web and mobile employee-facing apps delivered in organizations with mature citizen development initiatives.”

The report stresses that “Application leaders need to select RMAD tools that support specific business use cases and to build apps quickly and cost-effectively using no- or low-code approaches.” The report then offers comprehensive analysis of the RMAD market, including comparisons of product capabilities and functionality for vendors in the RMAD market.

Alpha Software clearly offers one of the most robust products evaluated in the report.  Alpha Anywhere is ranked very highly on both critical criteria:
