Rapid Application Development Tools are the Future of Development
There’s been a lot of talk and buzz about rapid mobile app development (RMAD) for some time now. In the tech world, that tends to cause a backlash. But when it comes to rapid application development, the buzz is for a good reason — RMAD bridges the mobile development skills gap, and lets non-developers (often called citizen developers) and developers alike quickly and easily build great mobile apps. Rapid application development is the future of development.
Valentine Silverthorne makes that point in her TechTarget article, “Here’s why low-code/no-code software development isn’t a fad.” She quotes Robert Stroud, a principal analyst for Forrester Research, as saying, “We’re seeing the citizen developer capable of leveraging IT and going outside of it happening everywhere…we’re going to see devs and low-code people next to each other, and business people continuing to push forward with products that add value directly to the bottom line.”
Rapid application development tools have given line-of-business staff and domain experts the ability to write powerful mobile apps. Gartner says the trend will continue — in fact, it says rapid mobile application development will boom. It estimates that by 2018 more than half of all B2E mobile apps will be written by enterprise business analysts and citizen developers using rapid app development tools. Gartner explains, “The use of codeless tools for the rapid development of straightforward projects by IT and enterprise business analysts will become an alternative to outsourcing, limiting the use of development partners to more-advanced projects… Those that resist will be bypassed and promote shadow IT.”
As more evidence, Gartner analyst Jason Wong told SearchMobileComputing that “by 2020, 70% of enterprise mobile apps will be developed without IT involvement.”
Many enterprises are convinced that rapid application development is the technology they must adopt to remain competitive. In fact, Gartner is predicting that rapid application development could account for more than 50% of all mobile development in the coming years. Alpha Anywhere is an extremely powerful rapid application development environment. Gartner’s study, “Market Guide for Rapid Mobile App Development Tools” found Alpha Anywhere to be one of the most robust rapid application development products it evaluated. Alpha Anywhere is one of only a handful of vendors that meet all of Gartner’s criteria for a rapid mobile app development tool. In addition, the Forrester report, “Vendor Landscape: The Fractured, Fertile Terrain Of Low-Code Application Platforms,” complimented Alpha Anywhere rapid application development platform for its “strong” mobile forms technology.
